About

Hello and welcome to the me site in more ways than one. This site is an experiment in me.com evolution and is built only with the tools that come standard on a Mac + iWork. Yes I know Dreamweaver and many other tools for online content creation but I wanted to see just how easy and integrated the iWeb and .mac account/me.com was. So here you will find professional and personal information about John Anthony Hartman.

A little about me-

I am a Futurist, Producer, Teacher, Media Strategist, Technologist and Entrepreneur. From desktop to server and all the topology in-between I have worked the full spectrum of Information Technology. I have been working with connected networks since before the web existed.  I have years of experience working on large-scale projects from conception to completion including strategizing, budgeting and implementation.

My passion for the future of technologies has allowed me to gain experience in watching the innovations from the lab environments into the mass market and apply those skills for my clients and employers. Inspired by Rheingold and Lanier I had a stint as a Virtual Reality consultant back in the early nineties, this gives me an insight into the evolution of our interface with technology. When I saw the long growth cycle of this industry I knew it would take years to reach the consumer market so I turned to my other passions: the web and production. I tested some of the very first web servers with Intel and envisioned strategies for early video integration for the web. From working on Hollywood productions to touring with a Shakespeare company I have worked in many aspects of production with a heavy focus on the Internet.

Fundamental changes have taken place in the way people consume media. Traditional major media platforms like print, TV and radio have evolved to what has been referred to as nonlinear, multi-platform viewing. I have been looking around corners and into emerging spaces and using my knowledge and experience to help my clients navigate this convergence culture.  I have been employing a transmedia storytelling and distribution strategy to reach the touch points where content is consumed.

I said, well, I'd like to learn to podcast, and no sooner had I, than John Anthony Hartman tossed me his card. I can't even remember all the things he mentioned he's been part of in the evolution that is New Media, but suffice to say, this is like having Dr. J teach me how to play b-ball.
